Suffrage Mural

We are thrilled to work in partnership with Michelle Duster and the multiple entities raising funds to support this new mural in the heart of downtown Chicago. Next time you are downtown go visit the mural at the corner of State St and Jackson. This new addition to Chicago public art celebrating Women’s Suffrage Movement depicts key figures like Jane Addams, Ida B Wells-Barnett, and Frances Willard and more. To read more about these leaders in the Women’s Suffrage Movement please refer to the index and the biographies here.

In partnership with Michelle Duster, the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events Special Review of Chicago Public Art, Chicago Women’s History Center is thrilled to support this important project.

As many cities engage in a public conversation about the lack of diverse representations in our cities we are excited to support this first step in Chicago to acknowledge the work of historical women who were seminal leaders in Chicago Women’s Suffrage Movement. Through ongoing leadership and activism between three generations of women from the mid-eighteenth century to 1920 when women finally won the right to vote in the USA, you can read about the lives of these fascinating women in the Suffrage Mural Index.
